Skate Better and Safer

 

Lessons and Instructional Camps:

Lessons and Camps are conducted by Clifton Skatezone Trainers that are specialist in the course skills that they are teaching. Instructional classes are one hour long, for a total of 6 weeks. Classes are conducted throughout the year. Instructional camps are conducted for one week straight for a morning or afternoon session twice a year. Registering:

All participants must pre-register with the Clifton Recreation Department. Registration can be conducted through the mail, walk in or after hours drop off at the Clifton Recreation Office, 900 Clifton Avenue, Clifton, New Jersey 07013. Office hours are Mondays from 8:15 a.m. — 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. Registration is on a first come, first served basis so early registration is strongly recommended. Program fees must be paid at the time of registration (cash, check or money order made payable to the Clifton Recreation Department). A copy of the registration form may be obtained here. Enrolled participants should attend the first class as scheduled — confirmations will not be mailed to you.

 

Refund Policy and Program Cancellation:

If a class is full or cancelled by the Recreation Department, a full refund will be issued. If a participant is requesting to drop out of a program, they must submit the request in writing three business days before the program begins, a $5.00 service charge will be issued. Refunds will not be issued once the program begins. The Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any program due to insufficient registration or other causes, which may affect the health, safety or welfare of the program participants. Every effort will be made to notify registrants of program cancellation. If schools are closed due to inclement weather, all daytime programs will be canceled until 5:00 p.m. The decision to conduct evening programs will be made by 3:30 pm. Equipment:

All participants must wear the appropriate safety equipment required for their activity. See list on back of this brochure under Rules and Regulations. Hockey equipment (helmets & sticks) will be available for students. All other equipment must be brought to the first class or rented at $2.00 an item/pair or $5.00 for combo of a helmet, knee and elbow pads. At this time, there are no skate rentals available.

 

Training Camps:

Twice a year we will conduct both a skateboard and hockey camp. The camp will meet Monday through Friday. The cost is $79.00 per person. Watch for details.

 

Lessons

Rock and Roll 1 & 2:

Rock and Roll 1 will introduce participants to basic skills that will help them get a fast start in the great fun sport of in-line skating. During the 6 weeks, participants will learn strokes, turns, stops and more. Rock and Roll 2 is for those individuals that have basic skating skills, but would like to improve on basic skills. Both classes are great for roller hockey players starting out in the sport or looking to improve their skating skills in order to improve on their hockey game.

Rocket Power 1 & 2:

These 6-week instructional classes are designed for individuals interested in learning the sport of hockey or wanting to improve their basic skills. The first half of the class is conducted without skates to concentrate on puck handling skills.

All Aboard 1 & 2:

These 6-week courses will teach the basic skills necessary to skateboard with the ease. The participants may be of any age. During the 6 weeks, participants will learn stance, turning, pushing off, stops and more. All Aboard 2 is for those individuals that have basic skateboarding skills, but would like to improve on those basic skills.
